Our youth section at Beacon Hockey Club is where the future stars of the game begin their journey. We nurture young talent, providing a supportive and educational environment for boys and girls to develop their skills and passion for hockey. Our dedicated coaching staff focuses on honing their abilities while instilling values of teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. With a strong emphasis on growth and fun, we offer regular training sessions and opportunities to compete in friendly matches and tournaments. It's about fostering a love for the sport and fostering friendships that last a lifetime.

What to Bring to Training and Matches
Besides training, we also play friendly matches and tournaments against other clubs. These are entirely optional and any child can sign up for them. The emphasis is on participation and enjoyment rather than solely performance.
Most Saturdays from September to March, we play in the "Badgers Conference", which are 11-a-side mixed friendly games home/away for children in Yrs 7-11. We sometimes play training matches when we don't have a competitive fixture.
On Sundays throughout the school year, we play monthly tournaments "mini festivals" (4-a-side for Under-8s) in and around Staffordshire. Teams are mixed (boys + girls playing together) and the format is 7-a-side (Under-10s, Under-12s) or 4-a-side (Under 8s).
In the current season, we are entering U14 and U16 Boys teams in the Midland League. These Sunday matches are competitive matches ("Tier 2") against well-established clubs in the region.
We also play 7-a-side mixed matches on a monthly basis against local teams. These Sunday matches are for less experienced and beginner players ("Tier 3").

Juniors Playing for Senior Teams
We are committed to the development of our Junior players, and work closely with our Senior Section to provide appropriate opportunities for Juniors to play in adult teams.
Juniors must have reached the age of 13 to be able to play in adult hockey competitions. Junior players will only be given this opportunity if it is considered to be in the best interest of that player.
Hockey Heroes is a fun and welcoming programme aimed at children aged 5-8 that aims to develop both their physical and character ‘superpowers’, unlocking the hero inside them!
More specifically, Hockey Heroes is aimed at beginners and not only focuses on helping children develop some physical hockey superpowers such as dribbling, passing and goal scoring, but also places as much emphasis on character development superpowers including teamwork, communication, perseverance and respect.
It costs £25 per term.
Our Hockey Heroes sessions are held on Sundays from 10:00 to 11:00 at Aston Uni Recreation Centre, Walsall B43 7AJ.
Every new player gets 2 free taster sessions.

We are always on the lookout for volunteer coaches ("Champions") and helpers ("Sidekicks") to help us run our Hockey Heroes programme.
If you can help, please get in touch.

We have a growing Girls Section and are striving to increase girls' participation in sport.

Youth players can progress to our senior teams from age 13, when they are ready. Progression is based on consultation between the player, their guardian and coaches. They typically join our lower teams and may advance to higher teams as their experience and confidence grow.

We are very grateful to all our volunteer coaches, managers and helpers who give up their time to develop youngsters' hockey skills, self-esteem and confidence.
We are always looking for volunteers. If you can help out in any way, even if you haven't played hockey before, please get in touch or find out more here.

Almost all of the club's coaches and staff are volunteers. Our hockey club is founded on the efforts of our volunteers, and without them the club wouldn’t function. We encourage all our members to get involved in volunteering. Whether it’s umpiring games, organising fixtures, washing kit, managing the daily running of the club, or simply cheering our teams on - our volunteers are indispensable to us and we would be lost without them.
You don’t need to be a member of the hockey club to help out. We welcome mums, dads, boyfriends, girlfriends, friends and any other willing people you may know! And if you have a skill set that you think would really help the club, we'd love to know more. Some skill sets that would be really helpful to us:
*England Hockey offers free introductory online courses and workshops for club members.
A number of volunteering roles do not require any hockey experience. Some of our parents are more comfortable on pitch, helping coach the juniors, while others prefer to get involved off pitch in a range of ways and may have professional skills that could be put to use. It’s up to you!
If you are interested in getting involved, please contact us.
We will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible.
