On Sunday 6 November, Beacon Hockey Club participated in a Mini Festival (for U10/U12) and Midland League (for U14/U16) event at Aldersley. It was an excellent turnout from South Staffordshire clubs, with the opposition teams including Cannock, Wednesbury, Bloxwich, Tamworth and guests Sutton Coldfield. Our U10, U12 and U16 sides were also supported by players from Barford and West Brom.
A special mention goes to our U14 Girls team, who were playing their first tournament together ⭐️
Massive thank you to all the volunteer managers and umpires who looked after the teams, and to the participating players and parents for supporting the event. More details on our teams’ results and performances below:
U14 Girls Team: lost to Sutton, WATs and Bloxwich
Scorer: Amelia
First U14 girls tournament all playing together and for some their first match ever. With no goalkeeper, it took a while to get familiar with each other and having 3 subs made it difficult to settle into positions, but we witnessed the beginnings of a very good team. Molly had a blinder in defence supported by Libby and Aimee and Amelia at different times, all showing their defence credentials. Lexi and Willow were making all the moves up front and were looking like they could score at any minute, but it was Amelia who did score against Bloxwich. Abbie made her debut and Lizzie made some exceptional moves in midfield. Katie was solid and dependable in the midfield and Matilda did well in every position she was put. Top effort girls, with more opportunities to train and play together I see a bright future for this squad. Report: Mikaela
U10 Mixed Team: won 3, lost 2
Scores: 0-1, 2-0, 0-2, 2-0, 2-0. Scorers: Alfie 4, Jacob 3
Excellent showing from a team formed of players from 3 different clubs (Beacon, Barford and West Brom) who hadn’t played with each other before today. The team took a little while to find their feet but finished the tournament with 2 strong wins. Well done to Jonathan and Connor who learned a lot on their competitive debuts, and to Alfie and Jacob who provided all the goals up front. Report: Gary
U12 Mixed Team: 3 Wins
Scores: 2-0, 2-1, 2-1. Scorers: Ivan 2, Aamir, Zak, Gagan, Vee
A fantastic showing today from the U12s mixed 3Bs squad. All games won and the goals coming from Ivan twice, Vee for one against a strong WATs team, a cracking goal from the edge of the circle from Zak, positionally perfect goal from Gagan and a blinder from Aamir. Luke defended beautifully with Kara and Zak at different times. Kara also played up front to show her versatility. Fab little team who showed some exceptional skills and teamwork. Report: Mikaela
U14 Boys: Won 1, drew 1, lost 2
Scores: 1-0, 1-3, 1-1, 1-2. Scorers: Matthew 2, Abdullah, Tristan
Some cracking goals from the scorers and good performances in a closely contested tournament
U16 Boys: Won 1, drew 1, lost 2
Scores: 1-0, 3-2, 0-4, 1-2. Scorers: Oliver 3, Tom 2
Encouraging performances and some superb goalscoring from our U16s against tough opposition!
