Fun in the Sun for Mixed Juniors

On Sunday 21 May, Beacon HC entered U10, U12 and U14 mixed teams in a Mini Festival hosted by Newport HC at Wrekin College.

It was a gloriously sunny, warm day and the hockey didn’t disappoint either.

Our U12s started the day with a win, with U10 Drew performing heroics in goal to keep us in contention, while regular U12 keeper Logan was scoring goals up the other end of the pitch. Aamir showed good ball skills in the midfield, Setiri worked hard denying space to attackers and driving us forward on the left, while fellow debutant Jonah formed a good partnership with Luke at the back.

Our U10s were unstoppable, winning all their games despite being a player short - imagine what they would have done with a full team πŸ’ͺ Top scorer was Jonah with 8, followed by Jack (2) and Alfie. We needed to be solid at the back, and Connor and debutant Charles made a big contribution by harrying the opposition and putting in vital tackles all over the pitch. Behind them, Lucas kept 5 clean sheets and only let in 1 goal! He kindly also went in goal for Cannock in the later stages of our match with them.

Our U14s played superbly, the highlight being a 3-0 win over Bloxwich. Playmaker SamWS notably created several assists and smashed a long-distance goal into the corner against Bloxwich. Ted looked increasingly sharp and confident in midfield and gave us valuable distance from defensive free-hits. Seb scored a couple of goals tearing up the left wing, while Harshaan also netted and was a menace on the right. Up front, Matthew poached another customary goal and kept opposing defenders busy with his movement and clever reverse through-balls, while our defensive trio of Molly, Aimee and SamMS in goal played a big part in securing us four points against tough opponents.

We are grateful to Newport HC for the impressive organisation of their first ever mini festival, to the volunteer managers, umpires, photographers and scorekeepers, as well as the players and parents for their support.

  • 24 Jun U12 + U14 exhibition matches vs QMGS school
