Young Stars on Song at Barford

On Sunday 12 May, Beacon entered Under-8, Under-10 and Under-12 teams in a mini festival hosted by Barford Tigers HC.

The U8 team found the going tough - our standard is improving, but so is that of the other teams! - but it was great to see such a big turnout with 7 players available.

The U10s finished runners-up in their event, winning 3 matches and losing only the 1st/2nd-place play-off against Barton.

Likewise, the U12s won all their games and fell short only in their 1st/2nd play-off against Telford. The team's top scorers were Jacob (6) and Jayan (2).

A big thank-you to the volunteer coaches Linnie, Gary, Mikaela and Rich, photographer Chris, all the players and parents, and especially to the U8 and U10 players who helped out Wednesbury, who were short of players.

It was a wonderfully sunny day for hockey, a meticulously organised festival and the hosts Barford provided food, prize medals and free entertainment too. It was great to see so many of the host club's staff (inc. umpires and most of the men's first team) and parents taking part and supporting junior hockey.

No more mini festivals are scheduled for this summer, but if any more events are confirmed we'll keep everyone updated.
