Beacon Boys Play QMGS to Promote New Pitch

On Saturday 24 June, Beacon HC played Queen Mary’s Grammar School (QMGS) at Aston University Recreation Centre to promote the fundraising project to build a full-sized astroturf pitch and supporting amenities at QMGS school, which are expected to be completed in time for the 2024-25 season.

Our Beacon HC U12 Boys and U14 Boys teams—including several boys who also attend QMGS—both lost to tough opposition in the first round of matches, before the two age groups were mixed together to play a much more evenly balanced second round of games, resulting in a 1-0 loss and a 2-2 draw.

After the games, QMGS headteacher Richard Langton and Beacon club chairman Andy Dickson updated players and parents on the progress for the project, appealed for further support with fundraising, and outlined the school’s plans to work more closely with local grassroots cricket and hockey clubs to nurture the school’s abundant sporting talent.

We would like to say a big thank you to the players, parents and volunteers who supported the event.

Any individuals or businesses that can pledge financial support and/or offer assistance to the fundraising campaign are invited to contact Andy Dickson to find out more.
