On 26 May 2024, Beacon HC entered the Shaheedi U15 Football & Hockey Tournament at Aston Uni Recreation Centre, organised by Walsall Asian Sports Association.
Despite being the youngest team with an average age of 12, our players rose to the challenge and secured two draws from their three games, against Barford Tigers and QMGS, losing only to the eventual winners Bloxwich and finishing third overall.
Our goal was scored via a penalty flick by Rhys, following a foul on Mustafa in the circle.
Playing against slightly older teams it was quite a physical tournament, and Ben and Mustafa were very brave to continue playing after picking up injuries and recovering on the sidelines.
It was a well-organised tournament with lots of food and activities on offer for the whole family in between the games.
Big thanks to DaveC for umpiring, to the players and parents for supporting the event, and to the QMGS and Bloxwich players who helped us out on the pitch.
Upcoming matches
We are already well into the off-season for hockey, but our Junior Section is still training on Wednesdays and Saturdays until the end of the school term. There is one upcoming fixture confirmed:
