On Friday 14 March, Beacon U14 Boys played a friendly against Sutton Coldfield U14 Boys Tier2 team at Wyndley Leisure, drawing 2-2 in an exciting encounter.
It was another excellent result from the Beacon Boys following the 2-0 win over Sutton in January. In this latest meeting against a comparatively stronger SCHC team, we dominated the first half and led 2-0 at half-time thanks to goals from DavidB and AaravS. We found it tough to keep up the momentum in the second period and SCHC gradually worked their way back into the match, winning a succession of short corners and drawing several crucial saves from MarioP in goal.
Our back three of AlexM, JakeP and EthanL held strong under pressure, wide players ShahmeerK and DavidB used the wings well and worked hard tracking back when we lost the ball. Defensive midfielder GunnarM effectively broke down Sutton's attacks and distributed to the central midfielders OskarL and AaravS, with rotating forwards JamesR, RohanB, VibhavA and JibrilA attacking the space and stretching the opposition defenders.
We were unlucky not to score again and snatch a win, but leading for most of the match against a bigger club is a tremendous achievement, well done to the team.
Next U14 Boys T2 game is on 8th April away at Old Sils. We need all the Boys and parents' support and availability again for that game, so we can put in another strong performance.
