Goals Galore in Tier2 Games

On Sunday 23 November 2025 in the Midlands Tier2 League, Beacon U14 Boys played at home to Telford & Wrekin at Aston Uni Recreation Centre, before the U16 Boys welcomed West Bridgford.

The U14 Boys raced into a 6-3 lead before being pegged back second half to 6-5. However they then built up another sizeable lead, eventually emerging 9-5 victors. Scorers were Mustafa (5), Oskar (4) and JacobF. Big thanks to RichM for coaching the boys and to AntH and LukeB for umpiring.

The U16 team found themselves without a keeper and were reliant on U14 players to bolster their ranks, still only mustering a bare 11 against their South Nottingham visitors. From the early pressure we exerted on West Bridgford it was clear that we could take control of the game, but having an open goal at the back was like a red rag to a bull and the away team in orange-and-black opened the score after ten minutes. We equalised soon after but the visitors netted again. Thankfully we managed to pull level and went in half-time all square at 2-2.

With the temperature dropping and the floodlights on for the second period, our team's superior technical skill and speed helped us conjure up a 3-2 lead. With a five-man defence, West Bridgford were being outplayed and put under pressure for large spells. But through quick counterattacks and short corners they were able to exploit our weakness and turned the tables to lead 4-3. With the clock running down, again we equalised but once more the visitors stole another goal to make it 4-5. Our players' heads never dropped, certain that we had the better of the game and eager to get more goals. Finally our reward came in the closing minutes with a last-gasp equaliser to make it 5-5. Goalscorers were Jovan (2), Oskar, Mustafa and James.

With a goalie between the sticks, this is a game we certainly would have won. Manager DaveOB called it the best performance he's ever seen from a team without a goalkeeper. The boys should all be proud of themselves! Big thanks to DaveOB for managing the team and to TomT and AntH for umpiring.

Next match is on 30 November when the U16 Boys play away to Beeston. We need all the players and parents' support for that meeting.
