Badgers Show Grit in 3–1 Win

On Saturday 6 December, Beacon mixed Badgers team hosted a friendly against Sutton Roses in the Badgers Conference, emerging 3-1 winners despite playing 10 versus 11.

It was a gritty victory in a close game that could have gone either way and saw the visitors open the scoring. We were under pressure for large spells of the first half, but penalty corners were the key to success, with all three of our goals coming from shorts.

Drew flicked a low shot against the backboard to take us level going into half time, before netting another similar strike in the second period to overturn the deficit. That extra goal boosted the team's confidence and gave them renewed energy.

In the last quarter of the match Axel hit a smashing reverse into the far corner from the edge of D which the Sutton keeper got his foot to but couldn't keep out. This two-goal cushion put us firmly on top, but it remained a fairly tight game until the final whistle, with chances at both ends. Goalie Olaf faced several 1-on-1s but saw off the danger each time 💪

All credit to our team - it was hard work for them again playing 10v11 and Jack was also feeling under the weather! Please all help us to get a full side out each week 🙏

Next Badgers game is on 10 January at Aston Uni Recreation Centre against Barford Tigers.

In the meantime there is a mixed 7-a-side T3 tournament at StoneHC on 14 January. Players/parents please indicate availability asap for that.
