On 16 October, Beacon HC hosted the first event in the 2022-23 Midland League Tier 3 calendar.
Beacon entered two teams in the U14 Mixed tournament and one in the U16 Boys tournament.
At the end of a hard-fought U14 contest, Wolverhampton & Tettenhall emerged winners, a point ahead of Bloxwich. There was some excellent hockey on show from the Beacon teams and it was great to see so many girls involved, especially Lizzie who was making her competitive debut ππ»
The U14 Girls and Boys have their own Leagues, but as the Girls fixture schedule is not released yet, we merged them with the Boys into a Mixed event. All being well, the Girls will have their own event at the next meet on 6 November π€
In the double-round-robin group of the U16 event, Beacon gave eventual winners Bloxwich a run for their money, going 2-0 ahead thanks to incisive running and striking from Liel and Tom respectively, before being pegged back to 2-2 and finishing runners-up. That despite six U14 helping out, including Leo plus Fin, Sam, Ariyan, Charlie and Tristan doubling up from the earlier tournament πͺ
Thanks to the players and parents for supporting the event, and to Mikaela, Ed, Jon, Muhammad, Rich and everyone else who coached, umpired and cleared up π
